That and just keying in commands and data are one way to make it quick.Įsprit I’ll say after a couple years and three editions of use is as powerful as it is ugly and buggy.

You really need the double sided 11x17 cheat sheet they used to have starting out to get all the hot keys. I was also learning two other systems for work so I let Fusion go. My only attempt to learn Fusion was plagued by broken links and out of date tutorials and curriculums that had no bearing on the UI I was faced with.

I do see a software switch in my future but it won’t be Fusion’s cloud crap because of contract requirements. Regardless of what it looks like I’m more interested in what the software does and how well. I’ve heard of updates bricking things for up to a week. I know lots of people make a lot of money with Fusion but the UI and feature set aren’t stable enough for business use yet IMO. CAM makes few apologies for its limited modeling capabilities. While that’s neat and all it’s apples and oranges. You have to understand that on some level you are comparing an Inventor/Solidworks like CAD product with CAM. If you don’t like MasterCAM you’ll fucking hate Esprit. What CAM systems are y'all running, and what's the community opinion on Fusion? Mastercam's still the industry standard for now, but I'm not sure it will last. Fusion's support/forums are way better, too, and it's cheaper. I understand it didn't have all these a few years ago, but it seems like lots of folks haven't noticed those additions and say Fusion is limited, when they don't actually know it's current capabilities. It's also got lost of high-end capabilities like 4 and 5-axis mill, mill-turn, and best of all for me, it does twin spindle lathe way cleaner than Mastercam, IMO. I'm mainly a lathe guy, and the ability to use confinement to do simple 2D stuff is awesome.

The UI is way slicker, the parameters make more sense, there are less windows and menus to click through, and if for some reason I get stuck, there are pop-ups and error/warning messages that are actually useful, for once. Mastercam is just a giant mess of old legacy tools and new stuff with a UI that feels like I'm running windows XP. You can smoothly edit stuff throughout the timeline, too, so if you want to change something a few dozen steps back it's nothing.

Just sketch some stuff in multi-line, add some constraints and dimensions, and you're ready to make a full 3D model. Fusion has no need for hundreds of clicks to make wireframes, no fussy-ass planes manager, no confusion between surfaces and solids, and no levels manager crap.

Fusions sketching/solids system feels about a decade ahead of MC. I realized just how poorly the design/CAD end of Mastercam works it sucks dicks with it's butthole, IMO. Not being a die-hard Mastercam guy, I feel Fusion melts MC's face off and eats it for lunch. With all that said, why are there so many guys here who just shit on Fusion 360? I've used some janky stuff like bobcad/cam that was definitely sub-par to mastercam, and I used Mastercam at work. Fusion is better for simple traditional lathe/mill stuff, and if I have to get into really crazy stuff like super tight 5-axis, swiss, or mill-turn/integrex style machines I'd rather use something with good full machine simulation like Esprit. It seems like Mastercam is just out of place. I recently got the Mastercam 2020HLE, but I got into fusion and now I feel like Mastercam's way behind. Checking out new software and options is fun sometimes, and even if you don't adopt something, you often get a learning experience. So, I'm a CAD/CAM junkie, and I'm never loyal to one system of platform. TL DR: I decided to try Mastercam 2020 and Fusion, and Fusion360 seems like it melts Mastercam's face off.
